Resurface properly prepared weathered wood and concrete with BEHR PREMIUM ADVANCED DECKOVER.
Best results start with proper prep. Remove peeling stains and wood finishes with BEHR PREMIUM® Wood Stain & Finish Stripper. For mold and mildew stains, and to restore the wood's natural color, use BEHR PREMIUM® All-In-One Wood Cleaner.
Use a 1/2" roller cover to apply stain and start with vertical areas first.
Apply even coats and allow ample dry time before exposing the surface to foot traffic and re-arranging plants and furniture.

Replace any rotting or unstable boards. You may use a wood filler to fill cracks and holes larger than 1/4".
Fill nail holes and cracks up to 1/4", completely fill in with Advanced DeckOver® coating using nylon/polyester brush prior to coating. Deep holes and cracks may require additional filling.
Apply painters’ tape to any deck surface you do not want coated in the DeckOver product. Then, using a 2”-2 ½” wide brush cut in a 2”-3”wide area around the deck floor where the roller cannot reach. Start at a corner and follow the grain of the wood.
TIP: To prevent lap marks, only cut in a small area of 2 to 3 board widths at a time.
Coat all accessible board ends.
Pour Advanced DeckOver coating into a paint tray and work a roller into the tray until it is fully loaded with coating. For best results, use a ½” roller cover.
TIP: For a more textured look use a Behr Premium Extra Textured Roller Cover with Advanced DeckOver Textured Coating.
Apply a generous, even coat in the same section as the cut in and roll the coating approximately 4’ down the boards.
TIP: To avoid lap marks, do not roll onto a new section until the previous section has been completed.
Reload the roller with coating and continue to the next 4’ section. As you go, roll back into the section immediately after the coat is applied. Continue rolling until the first coat is finished. Once the first coat has dried, continue with the second coat per label instructions.
No. BEHR DeckOver® should only be applied to a completely dry surface. If you pressure wash your deck, allow it to dry thoroughly for at least 24 hours. Applying DeckOver to damp wood can prevent proper adhesion and may impact durability.
In most cases, a separate primer is not required when using BEHR PREMIUM® Advanced DeckOver®, as it is designed to resurface and provide a durable, textured finish over properly prepared wood or concrete. However, the surface must be clean, sound, and completely dry before application. Severely weathered wood, heavily stained areas, or surfaces with previous coatings may require additional prep or spot priming for best results.
To apply BEHR PREMIUM® Advanced DeckOver® on an old wood deck, start by properly preparing the surface. Clean the deck with a wood cleaner, remove loose wood fibers or failing coatings, and allow the surface to dry completely for at least 24 hours. Fill cracks up to 1/4" and splinters, then apply Advanced DeckOver using a 1/2" nap roller cover, working in small four foot sections at a time for even coverage and texture.
Yes, BEHR PREMIUM® Advanced DeckOver® can be applied over previously stained wood, provided the surface is properly prepared. The existing stain must be fully adhered, clean, and free of peeling or loose material. Clean the surface thoroughly, remove any failing areas, and allow the deck to dry completely before applying DeckOver for best adhesion and long-lasting results.
